Greene King launched a real ale exclusive to its traditional London pubs earlier in 2009, if you manage to walk through 6 different Greene King pubs you'll get a t-shirt! Well, not just walk through, you'll have to have a pint in each of Greene King's pubs to qualify for a t-shirt to say you've been there and drunk it! I'm not exactly sure this encourages people to stick to their daily quota under the drink safe guide lines. I guess it all boils down to how desperate you are for a T Shirt or how thirsty you are whilst having the desire to travel to 6 different pubs!
Don't take this the wrong way, we are all for drinking beer and experimenting with different flavours but incentivising beer drinking with T Shirts could be done better. If you do want cool individually designed t-shirts have a look at www.mycool.co.uk there will be a pub and beer t-shirt section shortly.
Greene King - Royal London
"Cask beer or cask ale is a fresh beer that reaches maturity
inside the cask in the cellar of the pub. Most beer is filtered
and often pasteurised in the brewery at the end of the brewing
process. It is ready to serve as soon as it reaches its destination.
Fresh cask beer is different because it is a living product
and gains maturity and flavour in the cellar.
Effectively, both the brewery and your landlord contribute
to the final product. Your landlord has had to master
the delicate and age old art of caring for fresh cask beer
in order to produce the perfect pint! Real beer handling
requires skill, passion, knowledge and patience.
Cask beer, by its very nature and method of production,
is cellared and served at a higher temperature than lager.
Cask beer should be served at a cool temperature of between
11 and 13 degrees in your glass. It is this temperature that
best expresses the skill of the brewer in developing rich, ripe
and tempting aromas and flavours in the brews. Real beer
is a fresh, natural product full of flavour and character".
