Slaters Ales

Slater’s Ales – formerly known as Eccleshall Brewery is a very successful family run brewery which was established in March 1995 in its original premises behind the George Hotel in Eccleshall by Ged and Moyra Slater.

In an effort to meet increasing demand from customers for our award winning beers, we took the unprecedented decision to move to new premises in 2004. With a blank canvas and ten years of experience, we built the current operation from the ground up and we are now operating in a state of the art brewery producing some of the finest beers in the UK today. We have seen production capacity increase three fold from 10 barrels to 30 barrels during the last two years.

The move from Eccleshall to our current brewing plant in St Albans Road Stafford has enabled us to improve both consistency and quality in our beers and also produce enough beer to cope with the increasing demand from new customers. This increase in demand has also enabled us to double our full time staff from four to eight in the last twelve months.

By The Horns Brewing Company

We were once cheap lager drinkers! There- it’s out in the open, better now than for grainy photos of us once necking fizzy and tasteless mass produced beverages coming to light in the future. Thankfully, over time- something changed. A deep down desire for a beer full of character was finally coming to fruition: A myriad of colours, textures, flavours and feelings were all but a mere snifter of a craft beer away! If only we knew earlier!

The FILO Brewing Co Ltd

The original brewery consisted of four milk pasteurising tanks that were adapted to become the mash tun, copper and sedimentation tank with a brewing capacity of five brewer’s barrels. The current owners, Mike Bigg and family, bought the pub and brewery in 1988 and have been brewing ever since. In 2000 a radical decision was made to have a comprehensive overhaul of the brewery with the instillation of purpose built brewing plant and also a change of name from St.Clements Brewery to the FILO Brewery.

The Downlands Brewery

In 2011 Geoff and widdi sat down and discussed the idea of starting up their own brewery. The initial plan to brew house beers for the Shepherd & Dog pub in Fulking under the brand SouthDowns Brewery quickly ballooned into something much larger as they realised how popular the brews were. Rather than wait until they could source their own equipment SouthDowns Brewery rented spare capacity at Kent Brewery and used the facilities there to brew their first three beers – Ruskin’s Ram, Devils Dyke and Truleigh Gold. In August 2012, almost exactly a year since their first beer reached market, SouthDowns Brewery finally had a physical brewery in which they could make their beers. With the evolution from cuckoo brewers to brewery owners they felt that it was appropriate for the brewery name to evolve too. On 29th September 2012 Downlands Brewery was launched. Geoff and widdi believe that the popularity of their beers is driven by the emotional content that fills every pint. Each beer is full of flavour but it’s that indefinable extra that makes them even more special.
