Brancaster Brewery takes its name from Brancaster Staithe, a north Norfolk village steeped in brewing history. Located in the heart of prime barley growing terroir, records show brewing here dates back to Roman times. So great was the demand for barley from this area that reputedly the country’s largest malthouse was built in Brancaster in 1797, yards from The Jolly Sailors pub. Ironically the malthouse was built using bricks salvaged from the nearby Roman fort! See ‘A brief history and tasting notes

While the malthouse no longer stands, Brancaster Brewery is keeping a brewing tradition alive in north Norfolk by producing quality ales from the finest regional produce.

Since taking over the leasehold of The Jolly Sailors pub in February 2009, which inherited a brewery, the Nye family have concentrated on returning the pub to its former glory with sympathetic restoration and reinstating the brewery.

Brancaster Brewery is a 5 barrel brewery and produces small batches of high quality real ale using top quality local ingredients. It produces bottle conditioned ale, rather than cold filtered, to ensure the beer is in peak condition when it reaches the customer.
